
On why the Supreme Court ruling on “biological sex” is a threat to all women.
The idea of banning trans people from a space relies on the ability to somehow tell that someone is trans. This harms cis women who appear more masculine. It means that every woman who does not appear “perfectly feminine” (whatever that means) could be subject to harassment and being blocked from single-sex spaces. The only way to enforce the ruling is to be very judgemental over other peoples’ appearances.
Since attempting to implement these policies in America, and more recently in the UK, there have been widespread reports of cis women being harassed in toilets, and on some occasions physically assaulted and dragged out by men who had followed them in. Dawn Butler MP has spoke about how even before the ruling, she had witnessed friends who are cis women being challenged in bathrooms.
